Top 5 Trends from New York Bridal Fashion Week

Last week, we jetted off to New York for bridal fashion week! We caught up with our current designers and met some amazing new designers as well. It is always so much fun to see our designers and discuss their inspirations for their new collections.

One of our favorite parts of New York Bridal Fashion Week is trend spotting. We love seeing what is up and coming that we are consistently seeing across all the runways. It is gives us great insight into what are brides are going to be looking for over the next year or so.

Below is a round up of the top five trends we spotted during New York Bridal Fashion Week. We will work our way from the fifth most prevalent trend down to the top trend we saw on the runways. We have even included some snapshots to show you all the details and give you a glimpse of NYBFW. Let’s go!

5. Bateau Necklines

Bateau necklines are timeless, elegant and sophisticated. This high neckline was made famous by the incredible Audrey Hepburn in her countless films and her own personal style as well (Breakfast at Tiffany’s anyone?). This style is iconic and we are so excited to see it is making it’s way back into the bridal world! You will be able to shop more bateau necklines at La Mariée Boutique soon!

4. Texture, Texture, Texture

Texture is EVERYWHERE. From beading, pleating, feathers, flower petals, layers and layers of tulles and so much more! Texture has taken on so many new forms this spring. Our designers have found new and exciting ways to layer tulle, that is absolutely stunning from big layers to micro pleating. Another way we saw texture on the runways was with unique layering choices - feathers over delicate lace, 3D petals with beading, and many other beautiful combinations. We love texture whether it is delicate details to bold layering!

3. Vintage Lace

Another return to the classics with vintage lace! We absolutely LOVE this trend. Lace is an incredible medium but a return to the true elegance of French Alencon Lace. This lace is commonly referred to as “the queen of lace” because it is handmade by artisans in the Alencon region of France and dates back to the 16th century. It is incredibly detailed and highly sought after. We were blown away by this stunning lace on so many gowns this spring.

2. Asymmetrical Details

Asymmetrical details was another unique trend we saw this spring. We loved the subtle details such as a diagonally dropped waistlines and beautifully draped necklines. We also loved more bold asymmetrical details such as one shoulders, bold bows and dramatic ruffles. This trend feels a bit edgy and fresh while still feeling refined and sophisticated. We can’t wait to see which of our brides rocks this trend!

1. Build Your Own Bridal Look

Now for the trend of all the trends - multiple looks in one! What we are calling “Build Your Own Bridal Look”. Our designers are getting creative on ways to provide multiple looks and unique pieces for brides. Overskirts, removable skirts and trains, jackets, capes, belts, bows are all new options for brides to chose exactly what pieces and elements are important to them for their wedding day. The styling options are truly limitless right now and our designers are giving brides so much to work with, no matter what your bridal style is.
